Importance of

Resistance Training

Video by Dr. Anthony Vasile

I know it can be difficult to find the time to get a workout in. Sometimes our schedules are busy but it is vitally important to make time to exercise. Even if it is only 20 minutes it will have a great impact on overall health. Resistance training is any type of exercise that causes muscles to be strained. This strain helps break down muscles which in turn start to repair themselves which builds muscle mass. Types of exercises like lifting weights, doing body weight exercises, or even sports like wakeboarding are great activities to do. I love to rock climb because I have a lot of fun doing it, it strengthens muscles throughout my entire body and it makes me happy.
This research looked at resistance training and aerobic training and its impact on weight loss, body composition changes, and weight maintenance. It found that resistance training and aerobic training combined had the greatest positive impact on health. Resistance training alone helped people lose weight while maintaining lean body mass, or muscle, compared to aerobic exercises. So, this means if you want to keep muscle while losing weight, resistance exercises is your best bet.
The key takeaway is to find the time to exercise. Both aerobic and resistance exercises will keep us healthy longer. Moving well is just one of the factors that lead us to a state of homeostasis. It is important to eat well, manage stress and keep our spines healthy with regular chiropractic adjustments in order to live an optimal life.
