Reduce Neck Pain
Video by Dr. Erik Waldeland
As a Chiropractor, I’m constantly looking for ways to reduce neck pain. Numbness and tingling in the arms or hands may be stemming from the neck, but there may be an easy, less invasive, fix to the problem. With a vast majority of our patients that experience those symptoms, tightness of the scalenes and proper mobilization of the cervical spine go a long way to alleviate the numbness and tingling sensation that people experience. However, if there is a deeper underlying issue that is placing pressure on the nervous tissue in the neck, such as a disc bulge or herniation, more extensive treatment may be required. The stretch described in the video attached demonstrates one technique to help alleviate tension and tightness in the base of the neck and the scalenes.
“Symptoms of TOS may include muscle weakness, paresthesia, discoloration, swelling, numbness, and pain in the hand or arm, and muscle atrophy (particularly in the hand)”
“Exercise is a conservative and effective approach with regard to the treatment of TOS.”
Postural awareness and body position can be one key factor in people getting out of pain and being more comfortable at work. Our main goal is to ensure not only that your muscles are activating and holding your structure well, but also that your joints and functioning and moving sufficiently to support you if you are sitting for long periods of time.
