Nature and Your Health
Shared by Dr. Anthony Vasile
I love spending time outside and in nature. Ever since I was little that has been a big part of my life. I grew up making shelters in the woods, exploring mountain streams, climbing trees, and taking hikes barefoot. If I am feeling down, I try to spend a day or a few hours outside enjoying the beauty that mother nature has to offer because it makes me feel better. I wanted to see if there was research on positive benefits of getting outside and there is. I attached a research article that looked at the positive impacts of being outside in children.
“The primary purpose of this review was to compile and evaluate the existing evidence linking nature and the mental health of children and teenagers. The results demonstrate that interacting with nature is positively associated with the mental health of children and teenagers.”
“This study concludes that although the findings vary based on mental health outcome and type of nature interaction, it can be argued that nature does have a beneficial influence on children’s and teenagers’ mental health.”
Getting outside in nature not only is good for your mental well being but hiking or walking is great activity for movement. These two factors along with eating well and getting regular chiropractic adjustments to keep the spine healthy are crucial to living a life of balance and well-being. Taking a walk in nature is free, makes you feel good and is a great excuse to stay moving.
