When looking to lower inflammation with a green smoothie this week, try adding a handful of pineapple to not only give It a great sweet flavor, but pineapple is also loaded with digestive enzymes that will help your body process your food more efficiently.  The enzyme that is responsible for this is bromelain which aids in decreasing inflammation and swelling.  A vast majority of the pain we experience and the diseases we encounter in the world today stem from too much chronic inflammation in our bodies.  This is exactly why we need to not only address how well the body is moving when it comes to a new patient that has pain, but we also need to look at their diet and how well they are fueling their cells.  Below are a couple key findings from the research that supports the various ways bromelain supports or cells and tissues.

“Bromelain accounts for many therapeutic benefits like the treatment of angina pectoris, bronchitis, sinusitis, surgical trauma, and thrombophlebitis, debridement of wounds, and enhanced absorption of drugs, particularly antibiotics.”

“It also relieves osteoarthritis, diarrhea, and various cardiovascular disorders. Bromelain also possesses some anticancerous activities and promotes apoptotic cell death.”
