The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

 Video By Dr. Chris Phillips

This is one of my favorite topics to not only talk about, but to incorporate in my daily life and health journey.  The effects on your health of intermittent fasting are numerous.  The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting range from improving insulin resistance, weight loss, increased athletic performance, mental clarity, disease prevention, anti-aging and the list goes on and on.  The video discusses a research review in which they talk about flipping the metabolic switch.   This means that we run out of sugar as the main energy source for our muscles and brain and switch over to fat.  How long it takes to make this flip depends on how much glycogen storage we have in our liver.  What they found is it takes between 12-36 hours of fasting to flip the switch.  Most of the time it falls towards the lower side and 12 hours.  Sounds hard to not eat for 12 hours at first, but if you think about it, anyone can do it.  If you stop eating at 8pm and wake up at 6am, you have already made it 10 hours.  If you just skip breakfast and eat lunch at noon, you are at 16 hours.  Not as hard as we might think.  Then you look at the health benefits and it is a no brainer, as I discuss in the video.  I also recommend kids not fast and that adults listen to their bodies.  It is very important to understand the mechanisms and proper use of the “tool” of intermittent fasting.  I go into detail on all of that in the video.  I want you guys to watch this and then reach out with any questions.  I think this is a great tool for a lot of people, but I also think having the guidance of someone who understands the mechanisms by which it works and has personal experience with the effects of fasting is very important.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Enjoy The 12 Minutes To Health: The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting and thank you for watching.
