Increase Nutrition and Lower Inflammation

Video by Dr. Bryan Stephens

I’m using the term “green smoothie” loosely this week.  While it does have a good number of greens in it, the color gets overpowered by the beets and pomegranate seeds and it turns more of a purplish red.  Regardless of the actual color of your smoothie, it is the content that is important.  My whole focus on doing these write ups and videos is to help find a way to get more healthy and nutrient rich foods into the daily diet.  By putting the vegetables and fruits in the blender, it makes it easy to take it with you on the go and get rid of one of the excuses I have heard, “I don’t have time.”

By combining the spinach, beets, pomegranate seeds, and banana, you get a wide variety of micronutrients, vitamin C, iron, and dietary fiber to help the body function throughout the day.  The fiber helps feed the good bacteria in your gut to form the short chain fatty acids, B vitamins, and vitamin K2.  The bacteria also help form a defense against harmful bacteria by competing with them for resources and attachment points in the gut.  Along with the nutrients, there are also a high amount of antioxidants in the pomegranate seeds.  Antioxidants are helpful in lowering some of the oxidative stress that we are exposed to in our environment.  In summary, you get a lot of benefits from eating properly and help keep the inflammation that causes pain and poor health down.  That is the main goal of any of these smoothies.  Easy and quick ways to increase nutrition and help lower inflammation.  It is just an added bonus that they taste good too.
