Lemon Zest

In most of our green smoothies we add lemon to it give it a nice zest and it makes it refreshing. But the lemon is a great source of nutrients and gives us lots of vitamin C and antioxidants along with tasting great. We could talk for a few pages about how healthy lemons are for us but we will give you the cliff notes version for you today.

  • Lemons are a good source of vitamin C
  • Eating 24 grams of citrus fiber extract daily for a month reduced total blood cholesterol levels
  • Aids in digestion (Acid in lemons may be especially helpful in supplementing stomach acid levels, which tend to decline as we age)
  • Helps you stay hydrated (adding lemon to your water can help increase your water intake by adding great tasted to bland water)
  • Weight-loss friendly
  • Awesome antioxidants
  • Lemons protect us from cell damage and repair injury with antioxidant properties
  • Provides a potassium boost
  • Helps prevent kidney stones
  • Decreased inflammation

Make sure you are adding lemons to your green smoothie and getting all the benefits from this awesome fruit. Also, make sure to drink your smoothie before game day starts. This will not only give your body good nutrients, but it will help get your belly full before getting temped with “bad” food. This will set you up for a healthier Monday and great start to the week!
