Stay Healthy This Summer with Green Smoothies!

With Memorial Day coming up and summer just around the corner, a good healthy smoothie is the way to go for this Texas heat! This is one of my favorite green smoothies that I make. Super easy and it takes less than 5 minutes. What’s great about this smoothie is it is loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants are essential for decreasing inflammation. Spinach and blueberries are rich with Vitamin C which is an antioxidant. Almonds are high in zinc and Vitamin E which is also an antioxidant. I love adding the blueberries and bananas to the smoothie to help give it some of that natural sweetness, so it doesn’t taste just like spinach. This smoothie is a great way to help restore those nutrients after a day out at the lake or pool eating hamburgers and hot dogs. It helps flush out all of the bad toxins and helps us replenish with good healthy nutrients. Here is some great information about the health benefits of blueberries and what they have to offer.

“An increasing body of evidence suggests that blueberries and anthocyanins reduce biomarkers and risk of diseases that constitute major socioeconomic burdens, including cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and neurological decline.”

“Blueberries and anthocyanins benefit cardiovascular health via antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, positive effects on plasma lipid levels, and modulation of glucose metabolism and endothelial function. Blueberries protect vasculature in various ways that can be detected by vascular responsiveness, blood pressure, and arterial stiffness.”

Recipe:
  • 1 handful of organic spinach
  • 1 handful of organic blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • ½ a green apple
  • 1 handful of organic almonds
  • 1 cup of water
