As a Chiropractor in McKinney, my goal is to help people with back pain not only through the adjustment and exercise but by educating on how to decreased inflammation through nutrition. The importance of dietary fiber to decrease inflammation within the standard American diet cannot be overstated. The prevalence of highly processed foods and sedentary lifestyles have become detrimental to our overall health by increasing the total inflammation going on in our body leading to pain and dysfunction. Dietary fiber helps aid the digestive system and helps decrease the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disorders. 

In a review done by Silva et al. over multiple randomized controlled trials, they wanted to see the effect of fiber intake on glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. What they found in over the 60 studies that met the inclusion criteria was that in the subjects who either supplemented with high fiber or were on a high fiber diet they significantly decreased both their fasting plasma glucose and their HbA1c levels, meaning that an increase in dietary fiber should be used in conjunction with other methods for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. Even though this study was made for people already dealing with diabetes it shows the importance of nutrition and what we are putting into our bodies to support it and live a healthier lifestyle to stay pain free and chronic lifestyle disease free.
