Chiropractor’s Anti-Inflammatory Green Smoothie Recipe

Chiropractor’s Anti-Inflammatory Recipe

Video by Dr. Bryan Stephens

I was at my local grocery store here in McKinney and I noticed something common in many of the nutritional bars.  They have dates in them.  This is because they add natural sweetness to the bar without the added sugar that most of the processed bars have.  Companies use dates to help make the bars taste good because dates are one of the sweetest fruits in the world.  This allows the bars to have the sweet kick many people often crave.

This helps tremendously as processed sugar is one of the most inflammatory things we can eat.  As a Chiropractor, I know added inflammation leads to pain and degeneration in the body.  Chronic inflammation is also responsible for the chronic disease and lifestyle pandemic we currently face.  In general, our society eats poorly, sits too much, and does not manage stress properly.  All three of these things lead us away from health and homeostasis and towards sickness and pain.  It is part of the reason that we have such high rates of cancer, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Dates fruit was beneficial regarding glycemic control among patients with diabetes”

Mirghani HO. Dates fruits effects on blood glucose among patients with diabetes mellitus: A review and meta-analysis. Pak J Med Sci. 2021 Jul-Aug;37(4):1230-1236. doi: 10.12669/pjms.37.4.4112. PMID: 34290813; PMCID: PMC8281151.

Along with being sweet, dates also are high in fiber and antioxidants.  The fiber benefits our probiotics by acting as food they can break down into much needed vitamins and short chain fatty acids.  The antioxidants help alleviate some of the oxidative stress put on us by our environment.  Both these things can help lower the inflammation and aid with our homeostasis.

Ingredients (All organic and frozen)

  • 1 cup organic spinach
  • ½ organic banana
  • 2 pitted organic dates
  • 3 slices organic apples
  • ½ cup organic almonds
  • Water to desired consistency

Blend ingredients until smooth.  I also add my probiotics to the green smoothie as the fiber in it acts as the prebiotics needed to help them flourish in the gut.
