Why should you Boost Your Immune System?
I always chuckle a bit inside when I hear people talking about flu season. Not that I think sick people or people contracting a virus are funny, but because of this notion that this virus is present for a season. I do understand that people are more susceptible during this season than during summer month. Can we look at the other factors involved real quick. “Flu season” is from about October through February. How well do we eat during these holiday months. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentines and the list goes on. These months are set up around traditional food and alcohol and sugar. This destroys our immune system. Stress levels are at an all year high during the winter months as well. One of the most important factors though is the decrease in the amount of sunlight. This lowers our vitamin D3, which we know from research like the article I talk about in the video, is essential to our immune system and especially our immune response against bacteria and viruses. Vitamin D is responsible for regulation of our immune response and also the genetic expression of some of our most potent anti-viral and anti-bacterial cells we produce. If Vitamin D is low, we don’t produce enough of the right cells and cannot regulate the inflammatory response. This can be deadly for us. As you will see in the video we need to supplement vitamin D into our diets in-order for our immune systems to function optimally. As we age we produce less vitamin D also, so it becomes even more important. This is one of the reasons for a declining immune response as we get older.
