Stretch to Feel Better, Relieve Tightness and Reduce Stress!

Video by Dr. Daniel Hartwell

Stretch to Feel Better!

What’s one thing most people try when they’re feeling tightness somewhere in their body? Stretching! Though there are many different types of stretching (ie. Dynamic, static, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, etc.) I decided to show an example for a static stretch for the upper trap muscles. I personally try to stretch everyday, mostly just because I feel better after it to be honest. Another reason is that it gives me just a couple minutes out of my day to move a little bit and just focus on myself. We all know how stressful some days can be so why not take a little “me time” throughout the day. A systemic review done by Behm et. Al. was published in the journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism. This review states stretching can decrease muscle stiffness, increase stretch tolerance (feeling less tension when stretching), and at times increase muscle length depending on what type of stretching is done. So remember, Stretch to Feel Better!

Take some time to stretch over the next couple of days.  Over this next week I want you to try to do this stretch every other day.  You can follow along with the video and it will only take us 2 minutes.  You will be amazed by the difference in just two weeks.
