Avocados for Weight Loss
Shared by Dr. Antonio Flaquer
Snacking can be good and bad for some people. It can only be bad if you don’t prepare yourself correctly. Luckily this recipe I have for you here is an easy but cost-effective recipe. In this recipe we have an avocado that we fill with healthy nutrients. This dish is a simple one where it only takes about 10 mins (if that). What’s nice about this dish is that it’s easy to prepare and it’s filling too! I have some research below to give you the importance on avocados. One of the major things to realize is avocados are monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) which aid in weight loss. They also play a big role in someone with coronary heart disease (CHD).
Here is some research regarding avocados and CHD.
“CHD is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in South Africa. It is accepted that diet, inter alia, through its effects on lipid metabolism and antioxidant properties, plays an important role in the primary and secondary prevention of CVD.”
“A MUFA-enriched diet also does not compromise weight loss. Although the existing scientific evidence on avocados is limited, the high MUFA content and nutrient density of the avocado, suggests a beneficial effect on the lipid and nutrient profile, and should be considered as part of a dietary strategy to protect against the development of CHD.”
There are many principles to staying healthy and how we eat is one of the main factors. What we put into our bodies is what we’ll get out. The body heals from the inside out, not the outside in so put good fuel in the body and your body will have high amounts of energy and will fight off diseases. It must stay strong!
Ingredients
- 3 avocados, sliced in half and seed removed
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 1/3 cucumber, diced
- 1 bell pepper (any color), cored and diced
- 1 jalapeno, seeds removed and diced
- 1/4 red onion or 1 small shallot, diced
- 1 garlic clove, minced or 1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- small handful grape tomatoes, diced (optional)
- 2 – 4 tablespoons hummus, vegan mayo or garlic aioli
- mineral salt & cracked pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the ingredients. Once you’ve sliced the avocados and removed the seeds, squeeze or rub a little lemon juice on the flesh to keep the browning at bay.
Place the cucumber, bell pepper, jalapeno, onion, and optional garlic and diced tomatoes in a small/medium mixing bowl, add just enough of the hummus or vegan mayo to bind.
Fill avocados and top with salt, pepper and squeeze of lemon. Adding a little chopped parsley will add even more color!
